Did you know Shih tzus were originally bred to be lapdogs? Well in my opinion, they are still till this day the #1 Lapdog. Shih tzu’s are one of the oldest dog breeds today thethey have been around for thousands of years. Believe it or not they are one of the few breeds closely related to the wolf. Originally they were only owned by royalty in Tibet. No one was allowed to own a Shih tzu outside of the palace. Death was threatened if a Shih tzu was found in possession of common folk. It wasn’t until the late 1930’s that things changed and they were gifted to England and then the United States. Now the world is able to enjoy Shih tzus’!
Experienced Breeders
My Shih tzus’ are a part of my family. Originally I saw myself breeding a large breed, (like the Bullmastiff) that was what I had my heart set on. Then I had a child with chronic lung disease on a ventilator. When he came home I knew I could no longer consider breeding dogs that could cause any type of issue with his breathing. I also knew I had to get a dog that was sturdy and good with children. I had to pick a hypoallergenic breed that was not going to shed. I researched all of the hypoallergenic breeds and the one I fell in Love with is the Shih tzu. Now let me tell you why a Shih tzu is a really great dog for you and your family....
First off owning a pet is good for anyone’s health, it lowers depression, blood pressure and gets you outside exercising , even if it’s only for a couple of min a day. Shih tzus are good natured and gentle, so if you introduce an infant or young child early on, they will be accepting and patient with children. Lastly they don’t need a lot of exercise and that will make them calmer than a lot of other breeds who do need a lot of exercise. Another plus if you don’t have tons of extra time or energy because your busy or maybe you are older and just can’t deal with the demands of a high strung dog.Then a Shih tzu would be the breed for you.
A Furever Friend
I started breeding ten years ago, when my life changed drastically. My son was born at 23 weeks and 2 days, he was put on a ventilator and labeled medically fragile! His breathing was my number one concern. I researched many Different breeds that would fit my family, while keeping his health number one. The Shih tzu was a perfect fit for my situation, after I realized shedding, allergies and size would be a problem with most breeds. Majority of dog breeds wouldn’t be ok in my home or others homes in a similar situation to mine. I personally have been satisfied with my decision to breed Shih tzus. They are wonderful family pets, great with my children since brought up with them, and they don’t shed. Unlike other toy breeds, they aren’t fragile. Shih tzu’s are small but sturdy. Don’t get me wrong they can get hurt if you’re not careful!
A new dog is a big decision that you shouldn’t take lightly. Look around and take your time. Make sure you pick a dog breed that will benefit your family situation. A dog can definitely make your life more fulfilling and complete!
